Deanna Morgan, Television Anchor/Reporter After seven years in the news business, one thing is for sure: Deanna is great at her job! Born August 7, 1977, Deanna is a native Californian, fluent in English and Spanish. She was born to a mixed Korean/African American mother, born during the Korean/American War, forced to emigrate from an orphanage in Seoul, Korea to the United States. Deanna grew up in the Los Angeles and Pasadena areas and attended the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts. She earned her B.A. in Music from Chapman University. People are always surprised when they learn Deanna has an identical twin sister, along with an older brother and a younger sister. Deanna grew up playing the piano and taking dance lessons. She started vocal training at the age of 12. She performed at numerous events within California, and received many awards and scholarships in music. One of her most significant musical accomplishments was recording a compilation CD with a small record label.  While at Chapman, Deanna became involved in the Miss America Scholarship Organization and earned the title of Miss City of Orange 1998. She went on to participate in the 1999 Miss California pageant. She feels her musical background along with the numerous appearances representing the City of Orange have had the greatest impact on her career as an anchor and reporter. She attributes her speaking and stage expertise to her vocal performance background. While in college, Deanna also studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina and became fluent in Spanish. After Chapman, Deanna taught in the public school system for two years, but knew it was not her calling. Through meeting the “right people,” she got involved in broadcast journalism, and began interning and volunteering at television and radio stations in the Southern California area. She landed her first job at the ABC affiliate, KEYT-TV, in Santa Barbara, as a reporter for the Emmy award-winning evening news team. After KEYT, Deanna went to work for the former FOX affiliate, XETV, in San Diego. She has also worked as an anchor, reporter, producer, and editor for cable stations in Hawthorne, California and Garden Grove, California. Deanna now works for the FOX affiliate, KMSB-TV, in Tucson as well as the independent affiliate, KTVK-TV, in Phoenix. Her career in journalism has taken her to Florida, Washington, D.C., and Germany. She has interviewed celebrities such as George Clooney, George Lopez, American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and David Cook. She has interviewed members of state governments such as former California Governor, Gray Davis, and former Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano, along with interviewing members of Congress, Senator John McCain, Representative Gabrielle Giffords, Representative Raul Griljalva, and Senator Jon Kyl. She has interviewed U.S. Ambassadors such as former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Chas Freeman.  Outside of FOX 11, Deanna is a host, does public speaking, and lots of volunteering. The Southern Arizona Chapters of LULAC and NAACP presented her with a Rosa Parks Living History Makers Award for her ongoing service to the Tucson community. Deanna serves as a member of the Board for the Miss Pima County Pageant, and hosts their local pageants. She also serves as a member of the Salvation Army’s Encore Fashion Show Planning Committee. Deanna has hosted numerous community events such as the “Rally the Village” Black History Month Celebration, the Tucson Black Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet, and the University of Arizona African American Alumni Association’s “Phenomenal Women” Banquet. She has also volunteered for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Southern Arizona, the Tucson Care Fair, Tucson Unified School District, the Baha’i’s of Santa Ana, and the University of California, Santa Barbara Communication Association, and many others.  Deanna is talented, beautiful, and has a real flair for success. She knows her passion and talent as an anchor and reporter will pave the way for a long and exciting career in journalism. While she continues to strive towards being the best anchor and reporter ever, she spends time trying to improve her game at golf.
